McAfee

McAfee missed several recent threats

McAfee missed several recent threats

Our next door office had a problem (it’s a continuation of the kids issue from the other day).
He WAS running the McAfee protection products ~ It WAS up to date ~ it WAS a recent version.

There were lots of Internet connection and browsing issues, one of which meant that ANY website he went to, redirected to a dodgy search website. This effectively killed any browsing to websites (including the ones I needed to get the cleaning tools required to fix the little blighter) :(

[Rochester and Associates Ltd] got final confirmation for our 'Train to Gain' funding this morning ~ we are currently at 100% success rate for getting this for our clients...
Remove the offending issues with some funky tools and a lot of knowledge.
Remove McAfee, having let the infections in it was deemed ‘useless’ (not by me I hasten to add ~ though I did agree ;) )
Install a GOOD protection package.
Run a scan and get rid of the problems…

Now, after the initial scan, 10 problems pop up. That is 10 problems McAfee missed.
Not good at all…
As a side effect, his PC now starts up and runs MUCH quicker. :D

By the way…

We got final confirmation for our ‘Train to Gain’ funding this morning ~ we are currently at 100% success rate for getting this for our clients :D

Also, in a most amusing situation, apparently our buildings fire alarm went off today (someone mistook the alarm trigger for a light switch  ). Whilst waiting out of the front of the building, ALL the people in ALL the companies (except the people who had actually set off the alarm :???: ) watched a car parked on the bus stop outside our office GET A PARKING TICKET!!
Most amusing…

Seat belts

Get your bloomin' seat belts on!

Get your bloomin' seat belts on!

Whilst musing over a cuppa this afternoon, I stood gazing out over the tropical skyline of Bradford, and took the time to count the number of cars whose drivers were not wearing their seat belts.

It’s amazing just how many there are!

This is something that was pointed out to me by a client a while back, while admiring our view… (our office is almost square, with one full wall devoted to ‘floor to ceiling’ windows, affording an excellent view over the Leeds Road :) )

It’s probably safe to assume around 1⁄3 drivers were NOT wearing their seat belts.
FYI I guess around 1⁄4 were using their mobiles too!

BD3 is also (reputedly) the worst place in the UK for drivers not having the correct paperwork – Road tax, M.O.T. or insurance.

I stood gazing out over the tropical skyline of Bradford, and took the time to count the number of cars whose drivers were not wearing their seat belts.
All this makes Bradford a dangerous place to drive – there are people pulling out across the road (when trying to turn right, people just pull out across traffic!).
Not looking at a junction seems to be a favourite trick, as does the “it’s on AMBER – accelerate HARD”.

So the next time you feel like a thrilling, death defying ride of your life, enjoy a trip around the sights of sunny Bradford – just make sure your life insurance is up to date ;)

Traffic

Traffic - it's getting worse

Traffic - it's getting worse

After yesterdays little error (yes I am being nice about it), Demon left me little option but to buy a fully compatible ADSL 2+ router.

Before I get comments saying so – I KNOW that the first router would connect, but not at the ADSL 2+ speeds. The original router would only have connected at 2Mb max, the new router syncs at about 19Mb!

Once installed, there was a little problem with the password – I had to ask Demon to reset it – then I had the tackle the inter-office VPN.
A minor issue with the Internet Key Exchange (IKE) meant I had to reconfigure the accounts on both the Scarborough router and the one in the head office.

OH HOW I LOVE REMOTE CONNECTIONS!

Finally finished, I left the client with a MUCH faster broadband connection, AND I had previously fixed the network issues so they could actually find things on the Internet ALL the time. Previously this had a tendency to ‘forget’ certain websites (Technically they lost the connection to the primary DNS server and were unable to resolve Internet addresses – if you understand that WELL DONE and I welcome you to the Dark Side ;) )

Now I had some time on my hands so, on go the shades, and a nostalgic stroll down the promenade is in order; culminating in the purchasing of some highly desirable, fluorescent, souvenir pencils. Ahhhhh…..

Jumps in car – hears that the A64 (main link from Scarborough to Leeds) is CLOSED just outside where I am :(
Oh dear…

75 miles took me 3 ¾ HOURS!  A massive average of 20mph.
Eventually I arrive home, tired, sore and achy…

Feeling good for fixing stuff (and leaving a happy client) :D  - Feeling physically bad.

P.S.
This training offer is proving VERY popular :) It’s opening all sorts of doors for us.
Our next event is already almost fully booked, and we are considering places for the third one!

TELL ALL YOUR FRIENDS – FREE TRAINING!!
