Print your own body parts

Rochester & Associates Ltd Blog Post

A computer model of the jaw, along with an image of the finished article

This has to be one of the most amazing developments of technology.

A woman in the Netherlands, received a new jaw bone; nothing particularly amazing about that; In this case the amazing part is that the jaw bone she received was printed on a 3d printer!

Simply put, a big bed of Titanium dust was fused together using a laser – one little layer at a time.

This is a complex construct of articulated joints, along with the creation of a new jaw bone ~ have a look at the picture ~ see those grooves and holes? Those are specifically designed as to act as an anchor for new muscles, and as spaces for nerves etc.

Amazing! :w00t:

Equally as amazing is the fact the patient was out of hospital and home in just 4 days!

Now I only have to live a few years longer and my full metal skeleton (as seen in Wolverine) will be available off the peg :D

Here’s the BBC news article if you wish to read some more…
