Newness
Today I installed a replacement server at one of our long term clients premises in Manchester.
This was as part of a pre-emptive strike against failing hardware, and in the interests of replacing the server in a controlled environment instead of the usual, panic fuelled necessity.
This does not however, preclude a fault free install…
Firstly we replaced the router, the original having had a failed power switch (and had an excellent engineering fix applied by myself!).
A brand new router, out of the box, had to be updated to the latest version of the firmware before the backed up config from the old router would work.
Not too long before fixed though…
Then I started on the network ~ having to apply the settings usually provided by the server manually to ensure continuity for the business.
Removed the old server…
Everything still working!
Good so far…
Then I started on creating the client specific settings…
All still working…
Introduce client PCs to the network…
All still good (with a few minor missing items, like their Internet favourites needing copying over)
Finally, copy over all existing client data from old shares.
Oops!
LOTS of data = very slow copying time (not fun to watch I may add) = full drive!
Time to add more storage then…
On a more personal note…
Yesterday I popped in to a local B&Q store, picked up a few items (one of which was a tap I’d been looking for for a while), and queued up to pay.
Being the usual “Talk to anyone” type chap I struck up a conversation with the cashier, and a few members of the queue.
I joking commented that the tap should be free with the purchase of any 3 of the 10p chilli plants I had picked up.
The guy behind me in the queue said that they’d add 30% to the price for being cheeky
He then gave me a 20% off B&Q voucher he’d been planning to use ~ saving me £28.50 in total!
All this from a very generous stranger!
Thanks lots
