Better

A better couple of days ensued…

Chucked around a few desks in preparation for a clients move to a new office

  • then configured their network
  • tested all available ports
  • patched the network into the switch
  • tested moving the broadband connection to the new office
  • created a full network diagram with inset overhead summary

The client shook my hand afterwards and said “That was surprisingly simple!” :D
That kinda sums up our role in things!

Also, further to the last post…
The mouse hits 40-year milestone
Complete with a demo video of the first mouse!

Following the car woes – it looks like it’s developing a new fault :(
More impending expense…

Just to top things off, my ‘o’ key on the keyboard seems to have a problem, and the ‘l’ key is looking dicey…

Sigh :???:

Great day

Yeah for me…

Went to a meeting. :)
A six week project HAS to be completed in 3 weeks (over Christmas too) :(

Phone call on the way. :)
Gt shouted at to “Get here NOW”, because Quickbooks decided that the client could no longer log in to the data files – of course this was due to the server/me. :(
Not that I got an apology when I proved that it was Quickbooks, but also got the client to a point where he could run his payroll :???:

The car has been playing up. :(
A faulty part was fitted by mistake – also the battery died.
More expense just before Christmas.

My Email server threw a strop too.
It decided that some people would get ‘Failure notices’
Great! :(

Time to call it a day…

Up, down and sideways

On the upside Swiss company Logitech has hailed as a major landmark the production of its one billionth computer mouse.
Wow! 1 BILLION mice!
With current figures, that equates to 1 mouse for every 7 people IN THE ENTIRE WORLD!
And that’s just from one company.

moving onto my second tidbit of tech stuff – have a watch of the video at the top of this page:
Oblong Industries
It’s a demonstration of what they are calling ‘G-Speak’, AKA the techie stuff from the Minority Report movie. You know the bit where Tom is sliding stuff around a screen using some funky gloves…
It seems that the CEO of Oblong was a consultant on the movie, and now they’ve release a version of it to the public.
Cool!

The down bit refers to me acting as an advocate for a client who is in a major disagreement with a web development company.
In simple terms they are trying to overcharge him massively.
They even got him to sign contracts and approve quotes whilst fighting for his life in hospital!
Pumped full of drugs and expected to make a cognitive decision.
One word – despicable… :(

The sideways bit was the direction my car wanted to go in this morning after our deluge of snow.
Scary but fun ;)
Tried twice to get out of our village – failed twice – had some lunch (and a brief rain shower) – I finally managed to get my GF to work for the early afternoon.
 Globally warm Leeds please…
