All was quiet

Today was a peaceful day really – nothing much happening…
I got a bit further with a new project (A Rochester & Associates Skin for this blog), it’s a bit basic but works :)

I also had a look at a Toshiba laptop which I was tasked with testing – It ran for a while then tried to melt through my test bench!
Suffice to say it got a little warm ;)
Call to Toshiba soon then!

Night night :)

Incompetent

Incompetent, there is no better word for some of the “technical” people out there.
I have spent literally YEARS qualifying and learning as much as I can to get these wonders of technology to work properly.
I only wish there was some way of tattooing the idiots with the word “TECHNICALLY INCOMPETENT”.
Big red letters should suffice

Client’s (of a client) technical people ask to have the mail system changed to a different type. The request was accepted and actioned within 30 minutes of receiving. Oddly enough, at the same time the client’s email system goes offline – coincidence?
Nope – useless technical people.
Now the client has been without email for about 3 days.
I suggest a solution - the client CAN have email within about 10 minutes, if we implement this other system.
The clients technical people say “We’ll try some things out in the next few days, hopefully this will resolve the problems”
Next few days!!!! :???:
I go nuts if we are offline for a few MINUTES!

Oh dear…

Went home with a headache, shared a quick beer with a neighbour who was building a fence!
Felt better ;)

#EDIT 12/05/08
So this morning we get a mail saying that the “techie” – note the inverted commas – did what we said in the first place and VOILA! Suddenly the client gets email again!

Bliss

Off for a day in sunny Wensley today :)

The sun was shining, the stereo on, cruising through the glorious Yorkshire countryside, nothing but me…
… and LOTS of older drivers who obviously think we should all do about 20mph!

So I joined the back of the queue (and probably halved the average age of that same queue), and sang loud.
I’m pretty sure the sheep and cattle enjoyed my singing – not once did they complain! ;)

A few hours job, removing more nasty malware from the client’s PC. Then off to enjoy the pleasures the tarmac home…

Brilliant!

:D

How much??

Whilst running a routine check on the size of our clients web hosting, we noticed one of our clients was running a little over the 50Mb they had purchased.
Their website was a paltry 14MB in size but the logs (not 100% sure what exactly was being logged) was 1.98GB in size
(This equates to 2027.5MB!!!)

Needless to say, we suggested that they delete some of the logs before we do!
:D

I read in the news ‘t other day, that ADSL2 was being rolled out to ‘selected locations’
(BBC News Story)
24Mb/s broadband anyone? (most people are on a 1-2Mb connection, some have an ‘upto’ 8Mb connection)
3x faster than most connections :)

Just something else for BT to screw up!
