Timing

I had to pop to the garage today, to collect my new rear number plate and have it installed.
Timed perfectly, as the guys there were sitting down for a cuppa – yes please!
Whist there I learned that you need the V5 and your driving license to get said number plates – a quick return journey home and back :)
Whilst rummaging through the stack filed under ‘filing’ I heard the postman cometh (no jokes ;) )
He had delivered the new Tax disc for my motor :)

I got back to the office and started in on the stuff for the sales course we had ‘t other day.

Just managed to finish that and the phone rang – I dashed off the the warmer climes of Mirfield to fix a failing hard drive ( I saved ALL his data and reconfigured his broadband for shared access, whist there)

Finally got home, late again! :D

Fuel

So the hauliers are protesting about the prices of fuel again – GOOD!
Sadly they are not trying to get fuel down to reasonable levels, they are looking to get an ‘essential user’ rebate of around 20-25p per litre.
A spokesman I heard on the radio today said “we must understand the days of cheap fuel are over” – What??
When exactly was fuel cheap then???

Fuel prices

It would be pure coincidence that the rise starts around the 2003 mark – the year we decided to invade Iraq…

This on top of food getting more expensive,
And utilities,
And wine,
And insurance…

The list goes on and on in greedy Britain :(

In theory

I had a job that wasn’t a job today…

I visited the client from yesterday (actually, I visited his wife – no comments please!) to find out why their broadband wasn’t working.
A bit of testing proved that, in actuality, it WAS working; it’s just the reception was a bit (lot) hit and miss.
It seems that, quite rightly, Mrs wifey had hidden the wireless box neatly behind a curtain – all nice ‘n’ neat.
Unfortunately this meant that the wireless signal had to pass through a very impressive stone fireplace, through the nice metal chimney and out through the other side f said fireplace.
In essence – NO CHANCE!

Time to move the router…
Reception improves tremendously…
Find some extension cables in the garage, plug ‘em in, move the router further…
Reception now running at about 100%… :D
Cables all over the floor though :(

There is a phone extension wired in the office where the router would be ideal BUT BT in their wisdom, seem to have disconnected it..! :(

3 solutions then:

  1. Get the phone extension wired
  2. Use the extension cables to move the router – just try to hide them!
  3. Get a wireless access point to extend the wireless to the office

Client happy – even though technically there was nothing to fix!

:D

Amazing longevity

Tomorrow I have a call with a client we haven’t seen for about 5 YEARS!!
We used to look after him and his business partner in York. But lost touch.

It’s a credit to the systems we have in place that he could contact us at all!!
We MUST be doing something right! :D

I think it’s wonderful when things like this happen, it makes me think in more positive terms.

I also had a meeting with a telecoms company, hopefully to offer their services to our clients.
Time, I hope, to take a little bit of the BT market – if only!

Bucket loads

Today I really really got somethings done :D

I installed a VOIP (Internet telephony) system – now I just need the phones
I installed a Newsletter creation system to our website – hopefully this will extend into a paid for service
I got some more stuff done on the Rochester skin for this blog.
AND I did the usual stuff for our client

Wow!!

Found this kinda amusing too ;)
