Spam, spam…

This is getting to be like a certain infamous comic sketch – Bring back the Pythons!! :D

After monitoring the spam queue for a couple of days, it appears we are receiving 15-20 spam emails PER MINUTE!!!!
That’s a lot of spam (21,000 to 28,000 per day to be precise!)
It’s not surprising that one or two get through the filters.

On a better note…
It appears certain engineers are lucky enough to possess that most useful of talents, of being able to fix things with a touch.
I would count myself as one so blessed.
A client rang in a panic on Friday – she was creating a document for her legal team, decided to complete it at home, and so shut down her laptop and zoomed off.
Once there she powered up her laptop and got a ‘message of doom’ appearing telling her that the world would end and millions of people would die, plague and pestilence would sweep the lands etc etc… (I may have over egged that a little ;) )
Panic call on Friday evening – no joy in fixing over the phone, she had tried EVERYTHING, short of slaughtering goats - resulting in a visit out this morning…
I pressed ‘Return’ and fixed the bloomin’ thing!

How good am I??

Spam

I have this week, set up a temporary email system to combat and monitor the spam we get at our Simtech address.
I really had no idea just how much we get!!

In about 1 hour we received nearly 1000 spam emails – all professing my inadequacy in the male department!

I never had an appreciation of just how much cr*p our spam filters block, or just how often this is a problem.
If this is just one account on a small company’s website, the global problem must be astronomical!!

On a finer note – I kinda had an impromptu day off today…
Tor was sick (apparently quite literally, i decided i didn’t want too many details!), and my calendar for the day was quite light. So we decided to exercise one of our ‘self employed’ privileges, and stayed home :D

I quite enjoyed myself!

Busy boy

What, no posts in December yet – I MUST be slacking!!
Actually I’ve been a busy boy…

The Friday breakfast with the Leeds Business Forum group went well.
After the main meeting, and in response to the question “Does anybody have anything to add?”, one of the guys stood up and said “Simon is fantastic!”, after this another guy joined in and again said we were fab. After the FOURTH guy joined the chorus I was positively glowing!!

It’s nice to know we are doing something right!!

December is historically our quiet time, and so is the time to catch up with the internal stuff.
Not this year!
It seems that we are doing lots – and not getting too far :(
And not making money because of it!
It’s just the preliminary jobs of ascertaining the clients requirements and quoting and the like, but it seems at the moment there is lots of ‘simmering’ going on.
It’ll all come good soon though :)

Nearly killed myself in our bathroom recently too, having refitted the ceiling, the tiler told me we needed to lay a ‘proper’ floor to tile over.
So, this weekend I laid a new floor.
Now I ache all over!
It’s not right when your toes ache too!

Is there no end to the man’s talents??
