Another Christmas

So that’s over with then for another year.

I’m thinking I’m fitting right in with the ‘Bah Humbug’ group about Christmas.
Although I would claim to be a Christian, the lack of any close family (most of mine are living in foreign climes), the lack of kids and the increasing pressure to buy the perfect gift makes for a period of stress and grief.

We did do a great Christmas lunch though

Nothing good on the telly either :(
Well, not at this time of night ;)

The bloomin’ sore throat from the other day is lingering on much too long – I have already had an infection and the drugs to ‘cure’ it, only to have it migrate to the other side of my throat…
Now I’m hurting and sleep is again eluding me :(

Maybe I should turn into an alcoholic :???:
At least then I think I’d get some sleep…

Supposed to go shopping tomorrow; like I’m going to be in any fit state to safely drive across Leeds.
Typing this is difficult enough!

Guess I’d better go and lie down again – this time I’m going to try not to have the coughing fit.

Simon McScrooge signing off…

(B)loomin’ (T)errible

As one of our clients calls them!

#RANT#
So one of our clients decided that moving to the office below his would mean a more cost effective solution.
Client moves.
BT are informed of the change and move the broadband and telephones to the new address changing the account details too.
A couple of months go by…
Suddenly, with no prior warning, the client calls us saying that the broadband is down – which it appears BT have decided to disconnect :???:
Hmm…
Further investigation reveals that BT have not moved the account into the new name and have instead decided that the line is still in the old tenant’s name. More-so, they have also decided that the bills were not being paid by the old tenant (no surprise! BUT they WERE being paid by our client) so decided to cut the line off.
5 day down time whilst BT ‘reconnect’ the line. EVEN THOUGH it was their fault!
Once the line is reconnected BT then decide that they will install their own broadband on the line and attempt to bill the customer for a reconnection fee AND broadband from BT (which was never asked for!)
10 days whist the ADSL is ‘transferred’ back to us.
This morning the ADSL was back to the way it should have been for the intervening 3 weeks!
Is there an apology?? NO!!!!
#RANT OVER#

WTF is happening in the UK for service?
Not only are we getting ever more greedy, but we seem to not give a damn in general.
Am I the only person who INSISTS on a ‘good’ level of service as a minimum?
It’s getting worse :(

The title referrs to the sound made by a replacement monitor appearing on the desk about 2 hours after reporting the fault!

Blokey

The usual trick when one gets a sniffle (in true blokey style) is to simply ignore it until your body gets the idea that the ailment in question is not welcome – well, this is the USUAL response from me:

By way of an example – Saturday morning comes around, by now I’m feeling pretty poorly and decide that I might have a bit of a sicky day moping about the bed, as soon as I’ve rehung the bathroom door and replaced the shower screen! (which I duly did, then went to bed for a bit ;) )

This morning, after another poorly day on Sunday and a massive 45 minutes sleep! I finally admitted defeat and went to the local Dr’s shop.
I have an ‘impressive’ throat infection apparently “one of the worst this year”

Now I’m on drugs :(
And VERY tired after days with little sleep.

These tablets taste like plastic.

So now I’m back to work after a fairly fractured week – with being ill and bathroom floors etc.

This morning I had a laptop to fix – it no booty uppy – 2 conflicting antivirus packages (blummin McAffe doesn’t sit well with ANYTHING! ;) )
Remove 1 and it now worky worky :)

This afternoon we let a long standing client ’borrow’ the broadband after he’d tried to configure his laptop to use his GFs.
He finally gave up after I asked him (to ask her) if the email actually worked?
“Yes – no problems at all”
“Can you test it by pressing send/receive please?”
Plonk sound – “Error asking for a user-name and password”
Voice from the depths – “Oh we ALWAYS GET THAT”
It transpires that email HAS NEVER WORKED!!!!!!
AAARRRRGGGHHHH!!!!! :?:

also had to tell a client his 5 years worth of un-backed up data on his now corrupt hard drive, was unrecoverable unless by professional means (at a cost of £000′s). He was, understandably, not happy. :(

All in all an interesting day back!
