How hard??

We use Act! for our CRM (Customer Relationship Management) software.
It has it’s flaws, but it does for us.

Well – it did until now.
We’ve outgrown it pure and simple.

So we decided to test the Microsoft CRM package.

It took AGES to get it installed, many problems with installation and configuration, only to find that it is RUBBISH!
Purley and simply, it’s absolutely awful.

We have about 1200 contacts and 1000+ businesses to import – too difficult
We have a need for template documents – too difficult
We need an ongoing list of what happened when - too difficult

So I decided to build my own ASP based system using an internal web-server we have here.
It’s proving VERY difficult to get there too :( Microsoft seem to have over complicated the entire process :(

Apache web-server, PHP, mySQL on server 2003 then ;)

Chucking

Today’s networking meeting was good :)

Thought there was lots of throwing of stuff happening:
1st the chairperson :!: threw a pat of butter at another member – a true girly throw i might add – neatly hitting said member in the throat (kill shot – 100 points)
2nd one of the male members required a pen – whoosh – perfect throw, the return wasn’t quite so good and almost hit me!!
Kinda funny though ;)

Fighting

Today was all about fighting with the Microsoft CRM (Customer Relation Manager) software.
It’s a web based version kinda like Act! and Goldmine

Tried to get it installed onto a Windows XP machine – it took a bit to find out it wouldn’t work, so installed it onto a Windows 2003 server.
Again it took ages and continually added to it’s list of requirements (i.e. thanks for the last bit, now you need this).
Finally I got it installed
Just need to import the data now – that’ll be another fun jib then ;)

Tor’s off to Wales for a week – in the rain – oh dear :???:
So it’s all alone for the week - what ace things can I get up to I wonder ;)

Projects

It’s nice when you finally see the fruition of a project.
We get involved in lots of projects for servers etc. but the real fun comes when it’s something a little out of the ordinary.

We had just completed an EDI (Electronic Data Interchange) project for a client.
They have now got the ability to send and receive invoices/purchase orders etc. electronically – completely paperless :)
The big bonus for the client was that they had to answer a couple of easy questions and the project just happened, with minimal fuss!

We are soooo good!! ;)

Yawn

Up early again today – had to go to a clients BEFORE they opened.

The return of their server meant that I had to oversee the re-installation.
All working – i’m glad to say :)

Also, there seems to be an inordinate amount of tragic circumstances happening to friends/family/clients. We have heard about several (by that I mean more than 10!) times where there has been personal tragedies.

Our thoughts and feelings are with ALL of you guys – Hoping normal life will reassert itself soon!!
