Yearly

Visited a client for his once a year fix up today, no real problems (usual minor virus, spyware and cleanup duties). It brought to mind the length of time we had been looking after some of our clients.

“Probably should be looking at replacing [the PC]. It is nearly 4 years old”
Seems like yesterday we were installing a ‘state of the art’ P4 1.7Ghz ;)
Them were ‘t days (distant sounds of the enigma variations – Hovis music to all of you of a ‘certain’ age)

Also met a client who is a new start up company – It’s really good to help people get off to a flying start with the right equipment from the off.
Even if we talked the client out of about a £2k+ sale :)
At least they will get the right stuff and not feel cheated :D

:)More international hello’s: :)
Malaysia
Israel
Brazil
Costa Rica
Thailand
HELLO!!

‘m off to fill in some forms… #(then sleep hopefully!!)#

Greed

The industry giant AOL is getting greedy…
E-mail delivery ‘tax’ criticised

“AOL said the plan would reduce the amount of junk mail that people received because spammers were unlikely to pay the high fees required to get their messages to users.”

Oh yeah, the multi million dollar spam industry is really going to baulk at paying a measly $40k for getting round email filters…
Sounds incredibly like a money making scheme to me – then again I AM cynical ;)

It’s only a matter of time before governments introduce an e-mail tax themselves – watch this space…

I Love my job!!

:) Sometimes I really enjoy my job :)
Especially when i see great examples of the ‘fun’ relationships we build with our clients…

Example 1
Tor: “Hi xxxx how are you doing?”
Client xxxx “F***ing brilliant!!!!!! I just had a brilliant meeting…”
Tor: “erm… GREAT !!”

Example 2
Client xxxx “…Thanks for your quote for the laptop, you made the MD really jealous! He said it looks fantastic!”
Tor: “Great”
Client xxxx “Actually, he called me a lucky bi*ch”
Tor: “I guess you both get on really well then, (laughs)”

I REALLY love the open relationships & the laughs they bring :) :D

Special mention to the visitor from Israel – Welcome !!!!

Joy

Well, having spent a full week creating the network of tomorrow – spent a full 12hrs on site trying to configure old crap to work with it

Moral?
If you want to update your systems UPDATE them – Dont take some, half way measure!

The sum total of the day was:
Discovered that the authentication between the two networks happens off site – meaning that a journey of, at most, 200m between the two servers, becomes goodness knows how long all around Leeds :(
They now have a cool new Blog site of their own!! :)
Multiple attempts at creating an installable image for said PCs wasted the best part of 4 Hrs :(

“My cup doth runneth over” – with joy (kinda ;) )

Oh – had another Vaio to play with today – Green again :P
